Rural Service Centre Making Waves with Swim Mōhua
At Rural Service Centre, we believe every young person should have access to the skills that keep them safe and thriving. That’s why we’re proud to support Swim Mohua by funding the hire of a pool lane at their new home, the Tākaka Primary School pool — an investment of $2,000 every six months.
This ongoing support has ensured swimming lessons continue four days a week through the second term of the Golden Bay swim season, creating stability that’s allowed coach Sarah Tarrylea to offer scholarships to five students from low-income families. It’s opened the door for more tamariki to learn an essential life skill, while making lessons more accessible for families from western Golden Bay thanks to the central location.
We’re also excited to see Swim Mohua looking ahead to next season with plans to train GBHS swim squad students as coaches, growing both opportunity and capacity in our community.
On behalf of RSC, we want to acknowledge Sarah’s commitment and the smiling swimmers who are already benefiting. We’re proud to play a part in keeping Golden Bay safe, connected, and confident in the water.
