Every year, thousands of kilos of good food go to waste—while people in our community go hungry. Kai Rescue is changing that.
Run by Nelson Environment Centre, Kai Rescue collects surplus food from supermarkets, growers, and food producers, and redistributes it to local charities and community groups who get it to those who need it most.
Since 2017, Kai Rescue has:
✅ Rescued over 1 million kg of food
✅ Delivered 3 million meals
✅ Prevented more than 3.1 million kg of CO₂ emissions
That’s food that would’ve gone to landfill—now nourishing people and protecting the planet.
